Question:
Greetings, Our 2020 Forest River Rockwood Mini-lite scissor jacks are not very good as far as paint quality as most of it is peeling off and rusting. Drive NU brand comes factory installed and looks like we go camping in salt water areas. We only go in summer when no ice melt is never in contact with these stabilizer jacks. Is the powder coating on your jacks able to withstand paint peel and rusting under normal conditions after a few years use? Also, metal gage does not seem adequate enough on ours either as it is easy to flex with my fingers and feel cheaply made. The GVW is 5692 lbs and the suggested 4-jack rating is 10,000 lbs on your website. Is this able to keep from feeling a 200 lb+ person walking about the camper or should we move up to the next level rating? The reason I ask is that we have that now and do not want to replace with the same rating and experience movement as with existing stabilizing system. Respectfully sincere, Harvey

Hello Harvey. Our etrailer brand scissor jacks like the # TJSCHD-24-4 use a black powder coating that, in my experience, is quite durable. I have seen them last many years with proper usage. That said, with where most scissor jacks are located on a camper, they are very prone to catching scratches from road debris and rocks. So while the coating is durable, enough scratches over time can compromise the coating if left unchecked. My suggestion is to just make sure the jacks stay clean, and periodically touch them up with some rust-resistant black paint. Doing this should dramatically increase the lifespan of the jack.
As far as weight capacity, I feel that the 10,000 lbs of capacity that the # TJSCHD-24-4 offers will be adequate to stabilize your 2020 Forest River Rockwood Mini-lite. That said, if this is equal to what you have now, I think you should expect similar results. If you want to go with the next step up, I suggest the Leveling Scissor Jack # JSC-24-IND which has a 5,000 lb capacity per jack. If you are wanting things to be a bit more stable than they are currently, this will be the way to go.
