Is Equal-i-zer Hitch Ball Rated the Same as Older Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Head
Updated 03/05/2024 | Published 03/03/2024 >
Question:
Good afternoon, I purchased a trailer that included an equal-I-zer head, but did not have the spring bars. How do I identify what capacity my existing head is rated for to order the correct bars? I don’t see any identifying numbers other than the ball is rated for 14,000 pounds, and there is a “2 – J” casting number on the head. Thanks

Hi Russ, thanks for all of the details and photo!
For your application it will be best to get a whole new 14K Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET. When I sent your photo over to my contact at Equal-i-zer he said there are a few things that are concerning like the shank is not one that came with the hitch head and there is some hardware missing like the sleeves where the bars install on the hitch system.
Getting a whole new system gives you a whole new set of hardware and ensures everything is rated properly for your towing setup. Unfortunately there isn't a way to know the weight rating of the hitch head as it is. We can guess it is 14K since the hitch ball is rated that high but there isn't a way to confirm this, according to my contact at Equal-i-zer.
