Trailer Hitch And Bike Rack Options For A 2024 Mazda CX-30

Published 01/25/2024

Question:

We are getting a 2024 Mazda cx30. We’ve a four bikes Kuat rack that we have been using with our 2013 Lexus rx350. Would the new Mazda - a much smaller car / be able to tow with the four bike Kuat? What hitch would I need for the cx 30? Thank You.

Hello Lynn thanks for your question. I will start by telling you that unfortunately, it is really not going to be possible to carry a Kuat 4 bike platform rack on a 2024 Mazda CX30. Since it is a smaller car, the only hitch available uses a 1-1/4" receiver. The Kuat 4 bike racks will only work with the larger 2" receiver, like what you have on the 2013 Lexus RX350. The 2" hitches are able to carry quite a bit more weight.

If you are needing to haul bikes with the 2024 Mazda CX30, you can use the Curt Class 1 Hitch # C49CR. You will just need to get your hands on a bike rack that is compatible with the 1-1/4" hitch. For carrying four bikes, the only options will be hanging-style racks like the Thule Camber # TH9056. This can hold four bikes weighing up to 37.5 lbs apiece. This is a very solid rack so it always comes highly recommended. It will work well for road bikes, mountain bikes or really any bike with a standard frame.

If you want to stick with a platform-style rack, the only 1-1/4" options will be for carrying two bikes. A really good option is the Kuat NV 2.0 # BA22B. I am not sure exactly what Kuat rack you have now, but the NV 2.0 is the best Kuat rack in my opinion. I have had one for over 3 years now and I have been very happy with it. Loading and unloading is always easy, and the tilt feature is smooth and easy to operate. I also really like the way it looks on the back of the car. The NV 2.0 # BA22B is rated for carrying two bikes weighing up to 60 lbs apiece so it will work with heavier e-bikes or alternative frame bikes. Overall it is just an extremely well-made rack.
