Height Comparison for 2021 Chevy Equinox Roadmaster Direct-Connect and Crossbar Base Plate Kits

2021 Equinox, comparing Roadmaster Direct connect to crossbar type baseplate. How much does crossbar type baseplate increase the height of the towbar attach point? Interested in having towbar as high off the ground as possible.

The crossbar height is actually the same for the Direct-Connect # RM-523193-5 and Crossbar-Style # RM-523193-4 base plate kits that fit your 2021 Chevy Equinox. Roadmaster lists both at 18-1/2" along with a note saying this might vary depending on the sub-model and tire size (which is normally the case anyways).
The Crossbar-Style looks like it's taller but that's just because of the design. The tow bar actually sits a little lower with that setup which is why they have the same height.
I personally recommend using the Direct-Connect Kit # RM-523193-5 with the Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights # RM-676. This not only gives you an easier setup when it comes time to tow, but this system also has the LED lights on the arms of the tow bar so it's very clear to other drivers that your Equinox is being flat towed behind your motorhome at night.
For a complete flat towing kit I recommend the following:
- Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-523193-5
- Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights # RM-676
- Tow Bar Wiring # RO94FR for L, LS, and LT models OR # RO44FR for Premier models
- Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25
- Brake Kit # DM86VR for hydraulic motorhome OR # DM26VR for air motorhome braking
- High-Low Adapter (see attahced article)
