I have seen where very strong winds will flex the lid on a MaxxFan # MA00-04002K and allow some rain to get in during severe storms. The way to resolve this is by adding a cover to the vent which will help prevent the strong winds and rain from getting in. We have the FanMate in Smoke # MA00-955003, Black # MA00-955002 and White # MA00-955001 which allow you to easily remove the cover to service the fan as well.
There really is no way to seal the lid any better on the roof as all the vents have this same type of issue. They cannot put too much force on the lid to hold it down as the lids are made of a plastic material and would easily break under to much force.
