Question:

Hello, I am looking for a replacement outside door latch mechanism for our 1995 Featherlite trailer dressing room. It measures 5 1/8 tall and 2 7/8 wide. The door does not have a latch bolt. There is a bolt that sticks out from the door frame and the door latches onto that. The trailer VIN is 4FGL17201SA813385 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I can certainly point you in the right direction. I am sorry to say that there is not a way to look up a trailer VIN to know what kind of latch you will need. The original manufacturer of the trailer may be able to provide that info. On a trailer almost 30 years old that may be a long shot though.

The best way to determine what latch you will need will be to measure the thickness of the door, and the size of the latch cutout. For example the Global Link RV Entry Door Locking Latch # 295-000019 is a very common latch. It will be similar, but slightly smaller than the latch you described. This will fit doors that are 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick, and will fit a cutout that is 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" tall to 3" wide x 4" tall.

If you are able to get some measurements of the cutout, feel free to send those my way. A few pictures of the current latch would not hurt either. Any additional info you can provide will certainly help to narrow it down.
