Can I Tow a 2007 Honda Fit with Automatic Transmission Behind my RV

Officially, Honda states that the Honda Fit should not be flat towed, however, it is possible and there are many people that flat tow their Honda Fits. According to our flat towing authority, Remco Towing, to flat tow your Honda Fit, you will want to follow the emergency towing instructions found in the owners manual. Honda lists specific procedures and restrictions, so it is important to follow those if you choose to tow your Fit. Keep in mind, if any damage were to occur due to flat towing, Honda would void the warranty.

If you choose to flat tow your Fit, there are 5 main components that you will need to flat tow. You will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, tail light kit and a supplemental braking system.

For a base plate kit, you can use the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, # 521558-1, that you referenced. The EZ base plates are compatible with all Roadmaster tow bars, which I have linked for you to check out. Of the available options, I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520, for the telescoping arms and it comes with the quick disconnects for easy setup and removal. For safety cables, I recommend part # RM-643.

There are several different tail light kit options available. I have attached a link to all of the options for you. I have also attached a link to a help article on tail light wiring for you to check out. The harness that I recommend using is the Roadmaster 6-Diode Universal Wiring Kit, # 154-792-118158. This harness will remain permanently installed on your Fit.

Keep in mind, you may need an additional brake light relay, # RM-88400. You only need the brake light relay if your brake lights come one when your engine is off and the key is in the accessory position for towing.

Finally, you will need a supplemental braking system because most states require a braking system when towing. I have attached a help article on supplemental braking systems for you to check out. The braking system that I prefer is the Roadmaster InvisiBrake, part # RM-8700. This unit only needs to be installed once and will remain installed on the vehicle. The installation can become quite involved, so it may be best to have a shop install the braking system, tail light harness and base plates if you are unfamiliar with this type of installation.
