My favorite easy-to-install brake controller is the Curt Echo In-Line # C79DR because it tees in behind the 7-Way on your 2023 Subaru Outback Wagon and you control it with an app. This means you save on in-cab space plus you won't be modifying anything inside your vehicle to get this controller installed.
If you don't already have a 7-Way at the back of your Outback Wagon then here are the parts you'll need to get this installed:
- 4-Way Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040
- 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L
- No-Drill Mount Bracket # 18136
The 4-Way plugs into a connector on the rear passenger side of your vehicle and then the Upgrade Kit plugs into that and you'll route the included power wire up to your battery to provide power for the controller. The No-Drill mount bracket gives you a quick and easy way to secure the connector at the rear of your vehicle next to the hitch receiver for easy access.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like there are any true plug and play brake controllers that fit your vehicle, but the In-Line is the closest thing you'll find to that style.
