Question:
Hello: my trailer has the old style mobile home hubs which uses the 14.5 tires I believe Dexster style I’d like to convert it over to more conventional 15 inch rim and tires do you have a hub conversion kit available ?

Your mobile home axle uses a specific spindle which is not compatible with a more traditional hub like the Assembly # AKIHUB-655-6-K you found. You will want to find an entire replacement axle like the Dexter # 7461121-EB. If you can provide me with the dimensions on your axle I can help you locate a replacement.

One thing I learned about trying to convert those axles you need to go to A&w bearings or somebody who is like that and carry them the old bearings of your hub and give them the axle length for your bearings mount on it and hub and they can set you up with a set of bearings and an axle hub are they can tell you where to go get the hub at . I can't remember the name of the place of hand it's right down the street from A&w bearings and Dallas Texas but they manufactured the rims and hubs to fit your trailers if they don't have them they can get them for you. On the axles on my trailer they was converted to a Chevrolet rim and hub assembly and I make sure I keep them well packed even though they are in 90/W oil at all times. And I tried to run a standard 16 ply trailer tire. The only problem I ran across with my axles originally was they was using bolts which course threads instead of studs with nuts on them and the wrong wedges to hold the wheel on. In my 55 years of mechanic work that has always been the problem that I've run across they use the wrong wedges and they was using bolts instead of studs and some of them had weak rims it was not designed or built to handle that much weight or to turn that sharp as they do with the mobile home. When you turn that sharp you should be expecting to be stretching a boat or bending around with that much weight and you can bet you're going to be stretching in a stud or a bolt and you need to replace it. Google trying to help me with my spelling and they're worse than I am
