With it being a factory trailer brake controller I first recommend having the programming verified by your local Ford dealer. They will be able to check the programming for the controller to ensure it is receiving the correct inputs from your 2011 Ford F-150. The factory controllers tie into the vehicle modules and computers rather than providing their own computer system like aftermarket controllers. The only test you could really perform is checking the brake switch wiring with a Test Light # PTW2993 but it will require you to know exactly what wire from the brake switch sends power to the vehicle computers telling the brake controller to activate.
