Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation for 3" Wide Trailer and 3/4" Lugs
Published 08/15/2023 >
Question:
I have a boat trailer with 3/4 lug nuts. I already have a frame mount spare tire U bolt, but the lugs on it are 9/16. Id like to get a new U bolt with 3/4 lugs, so I do not need to carry two wrenches. The tongue frame is 3 wide and the U bolt is 8+ long. Which products would best meet my requirements? PS- it would be nice if these product descriptions had a picture with dimensions and lug size.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, and from what I can tell our spare tire carriers either come with 1/2" or 9/16" lugs as those are standard for most trailers.
What I recommend doing is either getting different lugs to match the threads for your current spare tire carrier or, if you're looking for an upgrade, to get the CE Smith Spare Tire Carrier # CE27202 which comes with a lock and keys but no lugs. The bolt diameter is 7/16" so you just need to find lugs from your local hardware or home improvement store that match the diameter and your 3/4" wrench.
