If you have a 6-Way round connector on your Dodge Sprinter Van, you will need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, to check the functions in the vehicle trailer connector. The brake light function should be the in the 5 and 7 O-clock positions when checking the connector at the rear of the vehicle. Your left and right turn signals should be on the same wires.
If you installed the 6-Way connector yourself or someone else installed the connector, you need to make sure that a Powered Modulite converter was installed to protect the vehicles wiring and combine the separate brake and turn signals on the vehicle to work with the trailers combined brake and turn signals. If a converter has not been installed I would recommend the Hardwire Kit, item # C59496, for your van.
If you do have a converter installed and the brake lights are not working then you will need to check the converter. Start on the vehicle side, with a circuit tester, and make sure you have all circuits working properly. If you have a brake signal going into the converter on the vehicle side and not coming out on the trailer connector side then the converter has been shorted and will need to be replaced.
