Question:

I have a transit 150 van we use for camping. Would like to carry my champion dual fuel inverter generator and two propane tanks 20# each. Would like to use a swing away hitch and cargo basket. First question, can I do this with a swing away hitch? Second question, how do I safely and legally haul my propane tanks ?

So as far as swing away carriers go, the only options we have are going to be enclosed carriers like the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier # Y62VR which only has a 100 lb capacity and a 10 cubic feet capacity so that's not going to be nearly enough.

Instead, I recommend checking out the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # H00604.

This cargo carrier is enclosed so it'll be protected from the elements, has a sliding base to extend 32" from the rear of your vehicle, a beefy 420 lb capacity, and plenty of internal space for your generator dual 20 lb tanks.
