It sounds like you're needing to add a 7-way to your truck so you can use a brake controller. To start, you're going to need add a 4 pole connector. If you already have one you'll just need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. If you need to add a 4 pole as well, you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55312 to add one.
From here you're all set to add a brake controller of your choice. If you're looking for recommendations, the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR is an excellent choice that will work with trailers up to 3 axles, will activate your trailer's brakes in proportion to your brakes, and is completely out of the way, leaving only a control knob exposed when installed.
