How Do I Wire In Electric Brakes If My Brake Controller Is Not Detecting My Trailer?

I have a 2019 f150 and recently got a trailer. It hooks up fine, but when I try to use the brake controller, it says trailer disconnected. I noticed no blue wires coming off the trailer. Do I need to run wires from the blue wire on my 7 way plug to the wires at the brakes?

Yes, you will need to run a wire from the front of your trailer to the wires on your brake assemblies. Each brake assembly should have 2 wires coming out of the back. Attach one of these wires to the trailer for the ground. The other wire will receive power. It doesn't matter which wire you use for which purpose. You will want to use 10 gauge wire. We sell this by the foot in part # 10-1-1. In addition to wire, you may need connectors, zip-ties, wire clips, electrical tape, and ground screws.
Keep in mind that wire colors are not universal, so you may see a different color wire coming from the brakes. As long as they are grounded and getting 12 volt power they should function normally and the brake controller should detect the trailer.
