Can The Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Be Mounted To A Box Frame Beam

Updated 07/15/2024 | Published 07/01/2023

Question:

Will the Lippert 3.0 Ground Control system rear jack mounting brackets bolt to a rectangular steel tube frame? We have a 2008 Glendale Titanium fifth wheel and it has a box frame as opposed to an I-beam frame. The box frame is made of rectangular steel tube so essentially the mounting brackets would be bolted to a flat surface. Thanks in advance for your help.

The Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System w Touchpad and Remote - 6-Point Set # LC675817 can be installed on box frame trailers, but since it uses nuts and bolts to mount you'll need to drill an access to hole of the other side of the frame to be able to tighten the nuts or you could have the brackets welded to the frame.

Hi there. I been reading the comments about installing Lippert ground control 3.0 on box frames. My 5th wheel has a C channel frame. Could I install the bracket on the inside of the frame over the lip like a I beam frame? Not sure if there would be enough clearance. I contacted Lippert, They say that the brackets are designed for I beams. Thanks for your advice.

@Steve The mounting bracket for the ground Control 3.0 # LC675817 would have to sit on the outside of the box frame. It was intended to be used with an I-beam frame so mounting the brackets is going to be harder to get the placement correct. I'd personally recommend having a qualified welder mount the brackets to ensure they're mounted straight since you don't have the bottom lip to use as a guide like you would with an I-beam frame.

@KevinC Thanks for your reply. I was thinking about putting a piece of metal along the bottom of the frame to make it a I beam. It would keep the bracket straight also. What your thoughts on this idea

@Steve You could try it, but since it's against the manufacturer's intended installation they'll likely point to this being the cause of any errors even if it's a manufacturer defect. I'd really make sure everything you do is perfect to avoid any issues down the line.
