Question:

I spoke with my contact at Rackem and they told me that there is an alternate method for installation of the Double Barrel Trailer Tailgate Assist, part # RA-27C. They told me that when you have trailer sides that are taller than 15 inches you can either weld an angle to the outside of the trailer at the correct height or they said some folks mount 2 by 6 boards on the side of the trailer to mount the lift assist to. You will want to make sure that any installation of the tailgate assist is stable and secure.
I measured the bottom plate of the tailgate assist and it is 2 inches wide, and approximately 7/16 inch thick. The holes in the mounting plate are 1/2 inch diameter, and are 52-1/2 inches center to center. Any alternate method of installing should take this into account and make sure the hardware you use will accommodate these dimensions.
