Recommended 7-Way Tester that is Compatible w/ Ram Factory Brake Controllers
Question:
I have a RAM 2017 3500 with integrated brake controller. I recently have had issues with electric brakes on a fairly new trailer that suddenly stopped working. Before I spend time/money on this trailer, I wanted to test my OEM brake controller. I purchased this model Curt 7-Way to RV Socket LED Circuit Tester - Vehicle End Item # C66NR But upon arrival, and plugging it in.. the brake light simply flashes. How is C73NR different? I ask because I have a different trailer that seems to work okay. I figured having a tester on hand would be handy. But it appears that the C66NR is not compatible with some modern brake controllers? Is C73NR compatible with my truck? Am I going down the right path? Thank you

I haven't heard of the Curt 7-way tester not working with OEM brake controllers. There was a Tekonsha tester that had problems with Dodge and GM trucks so it is possible.
We have been able to confirm that the Pollak 7-Way to RV Socket LED Circuit Tester item # PK12741 is compatible with Ram factory controllers.
The Curt 7-Way to RV Socket LED Circuit Tester item # C73NR and item # C66NR are the same testers they're just a different color.
There is one thing to note about the use of these testers to check if your brake controller is functioning. You are going to need a friend to help you. Someone needs to be in the cab hitting the manual stop on the brake controller for it to light up on the tester.
