Question:
Good Morning I am looking for some help in replacing my surge actuator LP8500 on a tandem axle trailer for my wake surf boat. I have reviewed your site and see there is not an exact replacement for the LP8500. I am also inquiring about replacing this system with electric breaks. Current system has disk breaks tie down LTD 46304 Engineering. is the part number on the break piston. The axles to brake mounting plate are 5 bolt and the break mounting plate part number is 44478. The rims are 6 lug and again tandem axle. The trailer and boat weight around 7700 LBS. Thank you for your help.

If the disc brakes on your trailer are still in good condition you can install the Hydrastar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator w/ Breakaway and 7-Way RV Harness # HS381-9067. This will allow you to control the trailer brakes using an Brake Controller # 90195 rated for electric over hydraulic brakes. It will also give you much better braking than if you were to install Electric Brakes # AKEBRK-7-SA on both your axles.
In the event you wish to install standard electric brakes I will need for you to disassemble one of your hubs to measure the spindle. This will ensure I find you the correct hub/drums for each of your spindles.
The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95 will allow you to drill holes for attaching to a 3" wide trailer tongue. You will not want to try and use the LP8500 surge coupler as components inside the coupler could fail and cause further issues down the road.
