eZ-Latch Coupler

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the contoured handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.

This is amazingly easy to use. Not only do you just drop it on the hitch ball and go, but you don't even need (or want) a safety pin. It is rated for use without a pin. You just drop it on and take off. Of course, removal from the hitch is both easy and positive. You pull up on the handle and it disengages. What's not to love. The installation was easy too.

by:

Easiest and best upgrade to my boat trailer brakes. Would recommend to anyone.

by:

I love this coupler

by:

Fit perfect on my aluminum Triton snowmobile trailer tongue. The top 2 bolt holes were a perfect match for the existing holes on the trailer. I did have to drill the tongue for the third bottom hole, which was easy since it’s aluminum. Hooked up to my truck in the driveway just to see how well it would work and it works awesome! Just lower it in and it clicks into place!

Huge upgrade over the Shelby trigger coupler that I could never get adjusted properly.

by:

works great. gets a lot of use on my car trailer & holds up perfectly.

by:

This thing is great! It couldn’t get any simpler. It’s so easy to use. Since I’m normally coupling/uncoupling by myself, it makes it so much easier.

by:

Awesome coupler. Very positive latch, easy, all Demco items are very high quality!

by:

Good product , excellent svc as always fro Etrailer. My favorite trailer part source.

by:

Damn fast delivery. All the way to Vancouver island in 4 business days. It would be better if you were made aware of backorders if they were holding up the rest of your order. Rectified quickly and quality of parts were good.

by:

Just used it once, but know quality when I use it. Very nice part, now trailering with much more confidence. Recommended.

by:

Quality construction, connects and disconnects very easily.

by:

Yes, etrailer is the best!

by:

Works flawless, only complaint is it did not fit as tight as it should I needed to shim the sides to get it tight. After I installed it, and tight I’m very happy

by:

It is nice but there is know place to lock it

For the Demco # DM13689-95 eZ-Latch coupler, we recommend the # e98887 which would install into the hole that is on the side underneath the top latch.

by:

another quality part from etrailer

by:

nice product, only thing wrong with it is the lever is made of plastic, other than that great design. If it was metal this would be a 5 star

by:

Fast and as avertised great products

by:

Awesome… exactly what I was looking for

by:

This is by far the best design I have seen yet. No adjustment required. Snaps right on to the ball.

by:

Everything was as we expected. Easy to install and the shipping was very fast.

by:

  • Is Dexter Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Coupler Available in a 7K Weight Rating
To get the Dexter Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Coupler # T4845000 in a higher weight rating you'll need to bump up to a hydraulic actuator like what we see with part # DX89FR which has a 7.5K weight rating. For an alternative standard coupler solution I recommend checking out the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95 which uses an eZ-Latch, is rated for 10K lbs, and bolts onto your trailer frame. This coupler is also Made in the USA and is backed by a 1-year limited warranty so as...

  • Replacement Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Homemade Trailer With Short Tongue
I'm assuming you have hydraulic drum brakes and actually need the brake actuator. If that is the case, you're looking at either extending the tongue so you can bolt on an actuator like the # DX33FR or welding one on like the # DEX94FR. Both have a 7,500 lb capacity and are compatible with drum brakes. If it were me, I would stick with the bolt on option and get a local trailer shop to extend the tongue a bit. This would also make for an easier swap in the future should you need to replace...

  • Can Steel Trailer Couplers Be Attached to an Aluminum Trailer?
You can safely use a Straight Tongue Coupler # DM13689-95 or A-Frame Coupler # DM13205-95 with your aluminum trailer frame. The zinc coating on these are not going to have any reaction with the aluminum frame. Do be sure any channels use spacers in the frame to prevent it from collapsing when tightened.

If the disc brakes on your trailer are still in good condition you can install the Hydrastar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator w/ Breakaway and 7-Way RV Harness # HS381-9067. This will allow you to control the trailer brakes using an Brake Controller # 90195 rated for electric over hydraulic brakes. • Is One Demco 2 Inch Ball Channel Coupler Safer Than Another
I am certainly glad you are taking safety into consideration when trying to choose your coupler, although none of the Demco couplers would be considered "safer" than the others you mentioned. Among the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler - eZ-Latch - Zinc # DM13689-95 and Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler - eZ-Latch - Silver # DM13689-52, I recommend the latter, which is the silver coupler. The reason I like this coupler over the others is it's silver powder coat finish, which...

  • How Do I Get My Boat Trailer To Apply The Brakes When Backing Down A Steep Slope?
Getting no brakes while reversing will be due to having a surge actuator. As this type of actuator applies the brakes by pressure on the coupler and there will be no forward pressure when you are reversing down a slope, it will not apply the brakes. The only way around this is to convert from a surge type actuator to an electric over hydraulic system. Doing this will require you to remove your current surge actuator and replace it with a standard coupler, like the Demco # DM13689-95. This...

  • Internal Dimensions Of The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95
Hey Doug, The inside dimensions of the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95 are 3" tall x 3" wide x 5" long (pictured below). The sides of the coupler don't need to fully cover the frame tube height-wise. As long as you have a 3" wide frame channel to mount to you'll be fine to drill through and bolt on the coupler with some of the frame extending below the coupler.

  • Recommendation For Converting Drum Surge Brakes To An Electric Over Hydraulic Drum Set Up
Since you are going to be using this on a boat trailer, I definitely recommend HydraStar. Their actuators are built of extruded anodized aluminum for corrosion resistance, have weathertight seals protect internal components, and include marine-grade gaskets and stainless steel hardware, so they are designed for use with boat trailers.
