Will The Thule GateMate Allow For Use With 55LB E-Bike Having Removable Battery in Front Frame Tube?

Question:

Will the Thule GateMate work with an e-bike that has a removable down tube battery. I am concerned that where the pad makes contact with the e-bike is where the removable battery is located. I am worried with the battery removed, the downtube will get damaged. It would be used with a Trek Verve +3 on a Honda Ridgeline.

With the Thule GateMate Pro Tailgate Pad # TH823PRO there is no reason you could not use this to haul your Trek Verve+ 3 e-bike on your Honda Ridgeline. I would always be sure to remove the battery to prevent damage while being hauled. Remember the frame on your bike is providing the structural strength for the bike and the battery does not provide structural integrity to the frame.

Personally, I feel using a hitch rack like the Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR is a much better solution. This will make loading and unloading your 55lb bike much easier as you will not have to lift it into the bed. Instead you will be able to push the bike up the included ramp and secure to the tray.
