Question:
Hi there. I have a customer who is looking to purchase a 2019 Audi Q5. They have a pop up they would like to tow, which has trailer brakes. The vehicle is fitted with a 4 flat harness. It is possible to convert to a 7 round and install a brake controller on this model? Thank you!

Yes, they will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This 7-way will plug into the 4-pole wiring harness they already have for their lighting and will just require that they run the ground to the frame, run wire from the black wire to the battery with one of the included fuses, and run a wire from the blue wire to the brake controller. The yellow wire can just be taped off unless they want to hook up reverse lights.
This kit includes regular butt connectors, but I highly recommend not using them and cutting off the ones that come on it and using heat shrink butt connectors # DW05745-10 to protect your connection points since they'll be exposed to the elements. Otherwise you'll be ripping out wires and redoing it later on.
For the brake controller I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. The control knob is tiny so you can install it almost anywhere and have it look like it was straight from the factory instead of the older bulky brake controllers that take up space under the dash. I have this brake controller in my truck and I love how easy it is to use and how it looks.
To install this you'll also need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR. The black wire will run to your battery with a 30 amp fuse # 331-CBK30-EB, the white can be grounded to the frame, the blue wire will connect to the blue wire on the # ETBC7, and the red wire will run to the cold side of the brake light switch.
If you have anymore questions or need any specific help on the installation side please let me know and I can get you what you need.
