Question:

I have this jack, my battery was dead, and I used the handle to manually lift the jack from my truck. It was very difficult to do this manually. Then I discovered that I overlooked the switch on the jack to put it in to a manual mode. When I switched it, the operation was very easy with no resistance. After charging the battery, I raised the trailer again to put on a different hitch and ball. When I raise or lower the jack now, it drops when I raise it, or continues to drop when I lower it, after releasing the switch. Hence, did I break it? Thanks for your help

It does indeed sound like the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack part # SC63VR was damaged using the manual override feature without first engaging the switch. This would not be covered under warranty unfortunately so you will need to replace the jack. I recommend the Phoenix Electric Trailer Jack part # UF38-944040 which will be a nice upgrade. This jack offers some of the fastest speeds on the market and it has one of the best warranties available of ten years. I did a review video on this jack if you would like to check it out below.

Please note, the Phoenix Electric Trailer Jack does hold a slightly lower capacity than the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack but this won't have any affect at all.
