Question:
I am looking at mounting this brake controller to an offroad camp trailer. With that said, there may be times when the tongue of the trailer, and more than likely the brake controller portion which mounts to the trailer. may be underwater for a short time. I see it says the Prodigy RF is not to be submerged in water, does that refer to the portion attached to the trailer as well?

I have a couple of solutions for you but the Tekonsha Prodigy RF item # TK94FR does not work underwater. All parts of this brake controller should stay above the water line.
If you are completely against hardwiring a brake controller into your 2014 Jeep Cherokee then you will want to use the Curt Echo item # C51180. The Echo also plugs directly into your 7-Way connector and allows you to control the settings through an app on your phone. It uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone so you will never have to worry about losing signal. If your phone dies it automatically uses the default settings you program in. If you plan on submerging your trailer up to the rear of your Jeep's 7-way you will need to disconnect the Echo.
The second option is to install a traditional brake controller inside your Cherokee. For this you will want to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Trailer Brake Controller item # RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Jeep. The Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob.
You will need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR to complete the installation, since your Jeep does not have the tow package.
