Question:

I would like to set up my 2022 Jeep Wrangler to flat tow. I have a Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. I know I need a baseplate, and some wiring harnesses. Do I also need a supplemental braking system? My motorhome has air brakes so I am not sure if I would need additional braking. Thanks for your help!

I would be happy to help you set your 2022 Jeep Wrangler up to be flat towed. You will definitely need a supplemental braking system. Even though your motorhome may have the ability to stop your Jeep it is required by law to have a braking system installed on a flat towed vehicle.

For a supplemental braking system that is compatible with air brakes you will want the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System item # RM-8700. This system offers automatic, real-time braking in your towed Jeep Wrangler. The actuator box installs permanently so that you never have to remove, adjust or reactivate. The system connects to your RV and engages your Jeep's brakes when the RV brake lights illuminate.

The Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit item # DM9519336 is compatible with your Blue Ox Alpha 2 item # BX7380. This base plate kit has removable arms and fits Jeeps with the standard bumper.

If you have an off road bumper with 1" D rings you will need the Blue Ox Off-Road Bumper Adapters for Blue Ox Motorhome Mounted Tow Bars - 1" D-Rings item # BX88358.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267. This diode kit allows you to use your Jeep's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. This kit will come with a 6-way socket for your Jeep as well as an adapter cable to go from the vehicle to the motorhome.

If your Jeep has ParkSense Proximity Sensors then you will need the Roadmaster Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights item # RM47ZR and the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit item # RM-146-7 instead.

You may also want the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit item # RM-751000. This kit will allow you to avoid damage to your Jeep by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. This kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.
