I would be happy to help you set your 2015 Chevy Traverse up for towing. For a hitch you will want the etrailer trailer hitch item # e98863. This hitch is custom fit and bolts directly to your Traverse with included hardware. It has a clean post install look that has the receiver sitting behind your rear bumper and not hanging down below your vehicle.
To control your trailer's brakes you will need a 7-way connector. If your Traverse has the factory tow package all you will need is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness item # 118271. However, this is unlikely since you do not have a factory hitch. Instead, you will need two separate wiring harness that combined will give you a 7-way way connector. The first is the Tekonsha item # 118270. This harness will give you a 4-flat connector capable of controlling your trailer's lighting functions. The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. This 7-way connector also allows you to retain your 4-flat connector for use on multiple trailers.
You will also need a brake controller. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR and the Redarc Plug in Adapter item # RED27FR. The Tow-Pro Liberty is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Traverse decelerates. It has a unique installation method that leaves only the control knob visible. The main unit is hidden behind the dash which means no bulky controller to bang your knee or shin on.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
