Question:
I have a 4000 pound and a 9000 pound trailer. Will the weight distributing hitch model 17500 8-10k be over rated for the 4000 pound trailer ? Will it be as effective for this lighter trailer ? Would it cause any problems ?

I have a recommendation as the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17500 is going to be to much hitch for your 4,000lb trailer and you will have issues trying to get the sway control to work with the lighter trailer.
I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-1000 which has a tongue weight rating of 600-1,000lbs and maximum trailer capacity of 10,000lbs. You will be able to use the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bars # FA92-01-0699 with your lighter trailer for a rating of 250-600lbs of tongue weight and trailer capacity up to 6,000lbs.
You can get 2 of the Replacement Sway-Control Brackets # EQ95-01-5600 that you can leave on your 2nd trailer so you will not have to move the brackets when you need to use the 2nd trailer.
