Question:

I have a small 4x6 enclosed trailer I bought used a couple of yrs ago. The tel is about 15 yrs old and I would like to replace the hub assemblies. How do determine what is the correct size of assembly to purchase, current one is a 5 bolt. What other measurements are needed? Thanks.

First you will want to determine the size of your bearings. This is done be either removing one of the hubs and finding the numbers stamped into the trailer bearings or by measuring the dimension of the spindle with a Digital Caliper # PTW80157(see image).

Once you have that information you will want to measure the lug pattern of the bolts. As you have a 5 bolt pattern the measurement is taken one of 3 ways. First you can measure from the center of one lug to the farthest edge of another lug. Second you can measure from the center of one lug to the imaginary centerline of the bolt circle farthest from your current lug. Finally you can measure from the center of one stud to the next closest stud. Below is a list of the measurement conversions if you measure this way.

2-5/8" - bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2
2-3/4" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4
3" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 5
3-1/4" - the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2

You can also check the wheel as the bolt pattern may be stamped on the back side of the wheel. Once you have all this information I will be able to help you find exactly what you need to replace your hubs.
