Troubleshooting A Trailer Detection System That Is Working Intermittently On A 2021 Ford F-150
Updated 06/22/2022 | Published 06/21/2022 >
Question:
ihave a new 2021 F150 with towing package. when towing, it will frequently fail in detecting the trailer with error message. this seems to cause various systems like BLIS, trailer assist and sometimes GPS to go off line. It will sometimes come back on for a while, and sometime cycle on/offline several times in succession over a couple of minutes. Trailer is a new 2022 Coleman 23foot using 7 pin connector. where do i look for the fix?

Expert Reply:
Since your 2021 Ford F-150's trailer detection is working intermittently, that to me sounds like a grounding issue.
What you can do is inspect your ground connections and ensure there is no damage to any of the wiring. Additionally, I also recommend unplugging your connections and applying some dielectric grease like the Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, 2 oz. # 11755 and re-plug the connectors back in.
If the issue still persists, you may need to take your truck to the dealer and get your vehicle checked, as it is likely still warrantied.
