Question:
I am trying to research and determine a safe and practical solution to tying down the aft end of my boat to its trailer. Here are the particulars to my situations. 21 foot wooden boat weighs approximately 3000 lbs. Mounted to a tandem axle Aluminum trailer with bunks. The transom and D rings on the transom are located aft of the trailer main beam ends where the G2 might be mounted. These D rings are mounted fairly high on the transom. The combination of the height and the distance aft make the 43inch strap lengths too short. Furthermore, they could not be mounted so that the straps are in a straight vertical orientation when attached to the boat. And to be clear, the trailer is big enough for the boat. So length is an issue. I am interested in any suggestions for dealing with this. Also of concern to me is corrosion of the G2 over time. I had thought that using stainless was the best option, but I see that the working strength on these is less than the coated painted?? versions of the G2. I can only assume this has something to do with brittleness of stainless steel but do not know. So how do the coated buckles compare in corrosion resistance to the stainless versions? I find the G2 buckles to be a compelling product that I am definitely interested in buying, but the short 43inch strap length is a problem. I have not seen anything longer in 2inch straps. Thanks for your time.

If you are set on a G2 style transom strap the BoatBuckle Mini G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Downs # IMF106877 will be 6' in length. These are the only straps over 43" that BoatBuckle has in a transom strap. Each strap has a working load limit of 466lbs. Remember that since you are securing the boat to the trailer the working load is considered for the lightest object. So rather than considering holding a 3,000lb boat to the trailer, you will consider it as holding your trailer to the boat. By combining both rear straps 932lbs with the strength of your winch you will have enough to hold the secure your boat and trailer together.
While stainless will provide you the best corrosion resistance over time the zinc coating will still provide corrosion resistance until it gets worn through which is generally many years down the road.
