On the Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18150 from the center of the hitch pin hole to where the shank starts to bend up, it is approximately 5 inches. The rise in the shank provides 3 inches more height above the top of the receiver opening. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you.
