Question:
Currently have 4.80-12 4 lug on my trailer. Thinking of going to the 5.30-12 4 lug. Wanting the highest load range possible? Making a long trip from California to the Middle of Texas.

Although it is not the highest load rating, I recommend the Taskmaster 5.30R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TT53012C for a replacement tire on your trailer. I would choose this tire over others since it is a radial tire which will be ideal for a long trip. The load range C means it has a maximum load of 1,050 lbs at 80 psi. It also has a speed rating of M for a maximum speed of 81 mph.
In order to find out if this fits or not we can compare this to the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TT48012C. This tire has a section width of 4.84" and a 20.63" outer diameter although if you currently have a bias tire your actual measurements may differ. The 5.30-12 # TT53012C tire has a section width of 5.39" and a 21.57" outer diameter.
The larger tire means you will lose .275" of clearance on the inside of the tire and .47" on the top. This isn't much of a difference but could be a problem if you're already at the minimum for tire clearance so I would measure just to make sure. We typically recommend at least 3" on the top for suspension travel and 2" on the inside of the tire.
