Question:

I have a 2010 Ford Ranger xlt 4x4 It has the 4 pin trailer wire to hook to the trailer. I want to install a brake controler. I watched you video on how to install the controler. But it is confusing to find the brake controler and wireing harness that goes together. Couldnt you sust put the two in the same spot to make sure they go together? And have them as a bundle already matched up. Thank You

As far as installing brake controller wiring (7-way harness) to your existing 4-way connector on your 2010 Ford Ranger, the only way to prep your Ranger for a brake controller is by using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. This will prep your Ranger with the required wiring by splicing the wires to your current setup. Since this harness comes with a 7-way plug, you will be able to plug in the brake controller into that outlet. If you need assistance with the installation process, I went ahead and attached a video of the harness being installed on a 2011 Ranger. The process on your 2010 model is nearly identical.

As far as the brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller that requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. If you decide to go with the Voyager, you need the additional plug-in harness # 20127. On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device.
