Replacement U-Bolt Plate for a Trailer with 2 Inch Square Axle

Updated 07/03/2013 | Published 07/02/2013

Question:

Most of the u-bolt plates for square axles dont show the bolt pattern. I need to switch the axle position relative to the springs on an older homemade trailer. The current support plate that is welded on has a 2-1/2inch x 3inch bolt pattern. What u-bolt plate and u-bolt would fit this pattern? This is a 2inch square axle and Id rather not have to cut off the existing plate. The current bolts are 1/2inch but I would like to go up to the 9/16inch hardware. I have no issue drilling out the existing plate. The springs and hangers I got worked great with only minor adjustments to account for the 9/16inch hardware. Thanks for your help.

For a 2 inch square axle you are going to want u-bolt plate # TRTP200175. The hole spacing on center is 2-5/8 inches by 2-3/8 inches. For matching u-bolts go with # SP01-160. They have a 9/16 inch diameter. I have included a link to a video review for you for the u-bolts. It does sound like you will need to replace some existing components if they do not match up. I do not recommend modifying anything because that can weaken those items. Any welding should be performed by a qualified professional.
