Question:
Just got a new 2022 4Runner and need to add a brake controller so I can pull my little camper when we go camping. I had a knee-knocker controller in my previous truck and didn't particularly like it as, due to the previous name I called it, I knocked my knee into it all the time. Which was obnoxious. So now I'm looking at the Redarc Tow Pro Elite RED44FR. Is this a good controller and what all do I need to get this working if it is what you recommend? I made sure to get a 4Runner that came with the towing package, so I do have a 7 way plug on the back already. Thanks for your help.

As your 2022 Toyota 4Runner has the factory tow package, it will make things a lot easier. To the meat of your question, I highly recommend the Redarc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR. This has one of the cleanest installs once complete, if not the cleanest. Only the adjustment/manual override knob will be visible once all is said and done, so there will be no chance of another knee-knocker situation.
The install on your 22 4Runner is actually easier than a lot of other vehicles as well. The Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-002 can be used one of the empty spots of your console, or there is a template that shows you how to cut a hole for it to fit into. This gives it an even more factory look, but isn't 100% necessary for said install.
Getting the Redarc controller connected to your vehicle is even easier and this is where having the towing package really comes into play. There is a port under your dash that the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # RED49FR plugs right into. It then plugs into the back of the controller and you are good to go.
