What Is Causing My Trailer Hubs To Overheat

Question:
I have a 36 ft living quarters 3 horse trailer with slideout My back axel driver side keeps getting hotter that all the other hubs I have replaced both axels twice The hub gets hot and the grease than burns up and the hub comes off I have lost tires . I have broken down 7times already and always the same wheel

There are a couple reasons to why this is happening to you. One reason may be that your castle nuts are tightened too tight or there is improper lubricant being used. You need to be using high temperature grease like # L11380. It also should be mentioned that it is not a good idea to mix grease types.
It also could be a case of the hubs being overloaded leading to hubs being overheating. The last thing I would check is the brakes. If the drum pad is adjusted too high or if there is a damaged component in the assembly that could be causing excessive temperatures.
