Trailer Brake Replacement For Hayes 6 Bolt 10k Axle

Updated 10/18/2021 | Published 10/16/2021

Question:

I am looking at possibly having to replace brakes on my trailer. I think I read on a tag they were Kelsey Hayes 10k axles. The drum is 12.25 diameter and the shoes are 3.5 wide. They have a plastic dust cover on the inside and no metal backing plate, they are mounted to axle with the best I can tell is 6 bolts. I am seeing 4 and 7 bolt mounting plates but no 6 bolt. Do I have an odd set up or does something else fit? The axles are mounted with springs on top and magnet and adjustment screw on top also. I thought the magnets went to the bottom. The long shoe is in front and the shorter one at the rear.

Based on your picture and my research it appears that you may have a 6 bolt pattern mounting flange but will only use 5 bolts to attach. With that being said, a 12 1/4" diameter, 3 1/2" wide hydraulic brake assembly replacement would be the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit - Duo Servo # K23-524-00-2. This will fit a 16" wheels or larger, up to 17 1/2".
