Can I replace the cable that came with 310-VMH001 with a synthetic rope? And if so what diameter rope would be needed?

Yes, you could replace the included cable of the Viking Solutions Rack Jack Magnum Hoist with Winch for 2" Hitches - 650lbs # 310-VMH001. The cable dimensions are 32-1/2' long x 3/16" in diameter.
