Question:
Hi. We have a 2020 Sonic by Venture SN220VBH travel trailer, we tow it with a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. We are considering buying two electric bikes to take with us when camping, each weighing about 62 pounds. Do you think the follow setup might work? Support the bumper with Mount-n-Lock Safety struts #MO34VR. Attach a Curt RV Bumper 2inch 4x4 trailer hitch receiver E-100. Use a Swagman E-Spec bike rack # S94FR, or a 1Up Super Duty bike rack. The sonic has a a NXG stamped frame. There are a series of holes in the frame right where the bumper supports would attach. If that combination doesnt work, are there any front trailer mounted options, or even front mounted Jeep options? Or somewhere else? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Expert Reply:
As long as your 2020 Sonic by Venture has a 4" bumper then this set up should work for you because the Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts Universal RV Bumper Support Brackets # MO34VR will fit bumpers 4" to 4-1/2" and the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # E-100 will fit 4" bumpers. The SafetyStruts will increase your bumper weight capacity to 400 lbs. and the Curt RV Bumper 2" hitch receiver can handle up to 350 lbs. in tongue weight which is what the bike rack and bikes would be impacting. I can't speak to the 1Up bike rack as it is not a product that we carry but the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack # S94FR is going to be a great option. The Swagman has enough weight capacity at 70 lbs. per bike to handle your 2 e-bikes at 62 lbs. per bike. The rack itself weighs 60 lbs. so all combined you are at 184 lbs. which is well within the limits of the SafetyStruts and Curt RV 2" receiver hitch. The other important note about the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack is that it is rated for use on a travel trailer, which is important because it means it was tested for the unique circumstances that come with using a bike rack on the back of a travel trailer.
