Number of Backing Plates Needed For 5 Foot Long E-Track

Updated 09/16/2025 | Published 11/13/2021

Question:

How many backing plates are suggested for the 5’ sections of e track? I would be mounting to a 12’ utility trailer with wood floor and metal cross members hauling 4 wheelers. Thank You

That is a good question, and you will need to use three backing plates for each 5 foot section of e-track, so the exact part you will need is the following:

- etrailer E-Track Backing Plates w/ Hardware - Qty 3 # e46RR

These will fit perfectly with the 5 foot sections of e-track that we have, which are available in either galvanized or black powder coated steel:

- Black Powder Coated Steel: etrailer Horizontal E-Track - 2,000 lbs - 5' Long # e25VR

- Galvanized Steel: etrailer Horizontal E-Track - 2,000 lbs - 5' Long # e45VR

If using five feet as an example, would the backing plate be installed @ 0, 3 and 5 feet?.and would you use a total of 5 or 6 plates for ten feet? Thanks Carl

@Carl The answer to that is it depends. But generally I'd go with at least two backing plates per track and maybe three if you will be securing something pretty heavy.
