Question:
Hello We own a 2015 Thor ACE 29.2 motorhome. We tow a Jeep Cherokee with a Demco Stay-IN-Play braking system. We want to tow a dual axle flat bed trailer when hauling sand toys. What trailer brake controller would you recommend? Will your recommendation interfere with the Demco Stay-IN-Play braking system when towing the Jeep?

Expert Reply:
I have two options for you, and neither of which will interfere with the current set-up of the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO, # SM99251 for your Jeep. The first option and my preferred choice, is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195. This is our best selling controller and for good reason, (4.9 rating from almost 5,000 users) it just is a solidly built, reliable and straight forward proportional brake controller. This brake controller will activate your trailer's brakes in proportion to the tow vehicle's applied braking. It will automatically adjust the trailer's braking based on deceleration of your Thor ACE Motorhome and will activate immediately without pause. For installation you will want to use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers, # 3035-P.
The second option, and what I suggest you go with if you want easy movement to another vehicle, is the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller, # C51180. This is a much different design and allows you to use the same brake controller easily amongst multiple tow vehicles. I suggest the P3 over this simply because I prefer brake controllers that are hardwired and fixed to the tow vehicle. However, the Curt Echo Mobile brake controller, # C51180 requires zero wiring and does not attach to the dash, no mounting to your vehicle interior in any way either. This simply plugs into the 7-way trailer connector you already have on your ACE motorhome then once it's synced to a smart phone you are ready to tow.
