Question:

I'm towing a 6400 lb loaded weight travel trailer with my 2022 Ford F150. Will I need weight distribution? If so, which product is recommended?

Any time the trailer/camper to be towed weighs more than half the weight of the tow vehicle, we will recommend going with weight distribution system to properly distribute a portion of the trailer's tongue weight from the rear vehicle axle to the front. This evens out the ride height, eliminates the tow vehicle rear end squat and keeps the tow vehicle's headlights properly aimed. It also helps the braking and steering performance of the vehicle.

Because you're towing a travel trailer, I'd highly recommend a system with an integrated sway control component, because due to their tall profile, travel trailers are very susceptible to sway caused by crosswinds and passing traffic.

Given the 6400 lb fully loaded weight of your travel trailer, your tongue weight would range between 600 and about 1000 lbs. The first step in choosing the properly rated weight distribution system is to identify the trailer's fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight, which should also include the weight of anything stowed in the truck bed behind its rear axle.

I'll link you to a help article that explains a few ways of determining your travel trailer's tongue weight, but a tongue weight/payload scale like the etrailer # e99044 is an easy way to determine the trailer's tongue weight quickly.

If you find that the tongue weight falls into the 600-1000 lb range, the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET would be the perfect weight distribution system for you, combining proven sway control with highly effective weight distribution.
