How To Select Adjustable Ball Mount for 2-1/2-Inch Hitch on 2021 Ram 2500

Question:

I have a 2021 Ram 2500. I would like to know the correct height I need to tow my Carry on 6x10 trailer? Also we are planning on buying a 8.5 x 24 foot enclosed car hauler in the near future. What would be the correct to safely tow both? Its a 2 1/2 inch hitch, measures 22 1/2 inches to bottom of hitch and 25 inches to the top of the hitch. Many thanks

What I think you are asking, when you state correct height, is height of the ball mount on your 2021 Ram 2500. To choose the best adjustable ball mount for you need to determine the tallest rise and deepest drop you'll need. This will be the minimum range you'll need in your ball mount. Because you will be hauling different trailers I suggest you get an adjustable. Step 1 is to find your hitch height. You've done this and have identified 25". Next you will need to discover your coupler height. With the trailer level, measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. Do this on both trailers you will be hauling. Third step, find the difference between the measurements of each trailers coupler and the hitch receiver (25"). Determine which has a greater height, your hitch or the coupler, the difference between the two measurements is the amount of rise or drop you have. You will also need to ensure you get something meets the needed weight requirement of your trailer.

I prefer the B&W products such as the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount for 2-1/2" hitches, with a 7-1/2" Drop/Rise - 18K, # BWTS20040B. When you're not towing, you can flip the ball mount platform around and stow it beneath your hitch so that you won't bang your shins. Just remove the pins to slide the ball platform down along the channel and up the back side so that the hitch balls face towards your vehicle. Then replace the pins. It also has a Built-In Anti-Theft System. The Tow & Stow ball mount features a channel that runs along both sides of the shank. This channel not only allows you to slide the ball mount platform up and down to adjust the ball height, but it also prevents removal of the platform when the ball mount is installed, which will help prevent theft of your trailer.
