Expert Reply:
The maximum tongue weight of this adapter is 300 pounds. Please be aware when using any hitch adapter the tongue weight capacity of your hitch will be decreased by 50 percent. According to Brophy, the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Adapter # HT5R the weight capacity of the adapter will exceed the weight capacity of the 1-1/4 inch hitch. Therefore the capacity of the hitch will be the limiting factor.
For example if the hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds then the hitch adapter is rated for a tongue weight capacity of 150 pounds.
Another item to consider is that this adapter extends the distance between the accessory and the receiver. This places any weight included on the accessory further away from the hitch receiver, therefore it causes greater leverage and stress on the receiver. If the additional weight on the extension causes too much stress it can result in damage to your vehicle or hitch or loss of the accessory and any cargo carried on the accessory.
