Brake Away Switch And Battery Disconnect Compatibility
Updated 07/30/2021 | Published 07/29/2021 >
Question:
When installing a battery disconnect should the emergency breakaway be wired before the battery disconnect? Would an automatic reset breaker need to be installed on the emergency breakaway power line? What amperage breaker? Is it ok to have the breakaway after the battery disconnect if you plan to have the battery disconnect on when trailering.

Expert Reply:
The breakaway for your trailer should have it's own dedicated battery like the Curt Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger Item # C52042 does. The built in battery charger receives power from your 7-way connection to recharge the battery so you won't be hooked up to the trailer's battery at all and won't have any issues with your battery disconnect switch.
