Recommendations For Adjusting Curt Echo Wireless That Is Jerking Vehicle When Making Slow Stops

Question:

I have the Curt Echo Brake Controller between my 2003 Toyota Sequoia and a 3500lb Jayco Jayfeather camper. When traveling on the interstate and needing to brake, the setting I use high sensitivity, low maximum braking does well and is smooth with lots of stopping power. However, when I slow to a stop, the trailer brakes are very jerky at 15mph and below. Pretty annoying and noisy. Ive messed with the settings and cant seem to figure out what would provide the smoothest experience coming to a stop. Any tips?

Based on the description you provided of the braking feel you are getting with the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 on your 2003 Toyota Sequoia to control the brakes on your 3500lb Jayco Jayfeather Camper I recommend lowering the sensitivity a bit and slightly upping the max braking pressure.

High sensitivity is OK when you are stopping quickly or at high speeds, but is not ideal for around town stopping as it is sending the braking pressure very quickly which can cause the jerking feeling you mentioned.

I recommend making these changes and testing it by going to an empty parking lot, getting up to around 25mph, and slowly applying the brakes. If the jerking went away then do the same test but apply the brakes harder and make sure you are getting the braking pressure you desire. If you are not you will need to adjust the braking pressure slightly until you get what feels best to you.
