Question:
Thanks one more question. Do you recommend using permatex or another sealant on the O.D. of the seal?

Expert Reply:
Generally speaking, there is no need to apply a gasket maker on the outside of a grease seal prior to installing it in the hub. This is not really common practice nor have I ever seen any issues not doing so. That said, I am aware there are certain manuals from Dexter Axle which state this needs to be done. If you're using Dexter Axle hubs then I would simply recommend you following their instructions. We don't carry Permatex but the Loctite RTV 598 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker part # LT37467 is a compatible substitute.
