Recommended Tire Upgrade for a Pontoon Boat Trailer

Updated 07/13/2021 | Published 07/12/2021

Question:

I have the 20.5x8-10 on my trailer. I was going to replace with the 205/65-10 but was wondering before i order them if i could upgrade to a 12 or 13in wheel and if so what size tire could i go with?

As you do not look to have any fenders on your trailer, you may be able to go with a larger tire and wheel combo. However, you do want to have at least 3 inches from the top of the tire to the bottom of the closest part of either the trailer or the actual boat. Less than that can cause the tire to make contact with things when going over bumps. With that all being said, I do not think the 13 inch wheel will work as it is significantly larger than the other two.

That also being said, the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM3H430 will be rated up to 1,320 pounds at 70 psi, and the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range E # AM31215 will be rated up to 1,520 pounds at 80 psi. These are also very comparable in size with the # AM3H430 having a diameter of 20.6 inches and the # AM31215 having a diameter of 21.3 inches.
