Importance of GVWR and Trailers Dry Weight When Choosing Between Trailers

Question:

My vehicle has a tow capacity of 5000lbs. We are looking at getting a small bumper trailer and I am confused if I should be looking at the gvwr on the trailer or the dry weight?

You'll want to look at the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) which is the maximum amount the trailer plus its cargo can weigh. If you subtract the trailer's dry weight from the GVWR, you'll get the maximum weight of the cargo you can load on the trailer. Knowing both weights plus having a good idea of what you're going to load on the trailer and its weight is very important.
