Question:
I currently own two vehicles a Ford Escape with class 2 and a Focus with a class 1 hitch. Im assuming the above carrier will be fine for escape with two bikes but not sure about focus. Im looking at obtaining two ebikes which weigh about 64 lbs minus the battery, low 70s with battery. Im also assuming that the focus will be ok for one bike, when I ride alone just not two bikes?

While we do have a bike rack option that is compatible with a Class I trailer hitch and has the necessary weight capacity to carry your 64 lb electric bikes (with the battery removed), the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack # HLY74FR won't work. This is for a Class II and up trailer hitch, and isn't compatible with Class I hitches, even with just one bike on the rack. The directions even call this out quite specifically, "For use on Class 2 or Class 3 Hitch Receivers only (Never on Class 1)."
So the only option for a bike rack for a Class I hitch with the capacity you need is from Thule:
- Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # TH903202
This is a premium rack, to be sure, but offers the only way to carry your bikes with your Class I hitch. The reason for its price is not only its carrying capabilities, but also that it offers a plethora of convenience features, starting with an aluminum ramp that allows you to load up and remove your heavy bikes with minimal effort.
The rack also completely folds up and has wheels and a handle, so getting it from storage to your Focus or Escape is simple. It also installs very easily, tightening with just the twist of a knob. The EasyFold XT # TH903202 offers security for your bikes with integrated locks in the clamps, and the rack itself has a locking knob, so both your bikes and the rack are protected.
I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack # TH903202.
